A fan of their recorded music for years, I must agree that this was one of the tightest, mind-blowingest concerts I have seen in my many years. No onstage drama, just a tight and psych set of great music and presence. The smoking onstage at the Orange Peel, pure rock and roll on the hookah bars .Do you have other good pics of the show? I really like the one you have posted on this site. I never got a good shot of Anton, although given the way he was set up that night, few probably did. I would love for you to post any other shots you might have of that amazing show.

Re: Psych Fest 2 Austin, TX March 13th-15th

nice

Re: Apteka

Wait, your thinking about "retiring from the blogging business". I braved the weather and drove out from Houston, arriving just in time to see Texas legends, Golden Dawn, and the incredible Black Angles. The Black Angles put on the best show I've seen this year by far, hell I might include last year as well.... I will be sure to do my best to make it back next year, fo' sure.

Re: The Brian Jonestown Massacre 04/08/09: Part 1

I drove down from Roanoke, Virginia to see this show. I figure I'm a private first class because Anton kicked me off his MySpace friends list about a political difference. Nevertheless, this music has paved an aural pathway in my brain that I really love to explore and revisit.

I've seen them twice. First last year at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in NYC last. It was rather a mess Anton was really sick (ew) and drank lots of vodka out of the bottle onstage. He just flew in from Berlin and didn't like the audience. He took forever between songs and let one of his band members torture the audience with dub feedback awful stuff. I couldn't even stay they played so badly for so long. I felt sorry for them.

So, to see the strongest members of the band rocking out so well at the Trocadero in Philly last Saturday April 4 was a BLAST . They totally blew away the all ages audience.

Anton was subdued but his singing was clear and strong. He drank Red Bull and water so his playing and singing kept getting better.

As for stage presences... His communication with the longtime members was subtle, too. No kicking or swearing necessary to get the great wall of sound that Anton insists upon.

Great show, great music, great band.

Re: The Vega Star - The Night

Just got a copy of this album.
